Christine Oxley trained at Reigate School of Art and Design, in Calligraphy, Heraldry and Illumination in the early 1970’s. Since then she has built up a reputation across the country teaching calligraphy, including residential summer schools, primary school workshops and workshops for calligraphy societies. Workshop subjects cover a large repertoire of calligraphic styles and a variety of projects of calligraphic design.

The main focus of Christine’s work however, has been carrying out a multiplicity of commissioned work for a diverse clientele. These include formal Presentation Scrolls, Books of Remembrance, Wedding Stationery, Poetry, Family Trees, Decorative Maps and Plans. She has also worked in conserving and repairing pages from precious early printed books.

Christine also gives zoom calligraphy tuition, a method of teaching which proved most successful during Covid. This gives students the advantage to study the movement of the pen on the live recording and the opportunity to review the recordings many times and work at their own pace and in their own home.

Once settled in her new home in Cumbria, Christine looks forward to resuming her commission work.
